SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team dropped a close game to Le Moyne College, 2-0 at the American International Tournament Saturday afternoon at AIC Park. The result leaves the Cougars winless on the season at 0-2, while the Dolphins improve to 2-0.
Le Moyne opened the scoring in the 18th minute on a goal by Christina Harrison. Caldwell controlled play in the second half and almost tied the game midway through the half. But a shot by senior midfielder Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX/Billy Ryan), pictured, hit the post and bounced away from the goal, keeping the Cougars scoreless. With less than four minutes to play, Megan O'Shea tallied an insurance goal for the Dolphins, who defeated Wilmington College 2-0 in yesterday's first match at the AIC Tournament.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) recorded eight saves in the loss. Le Moyne's Amanda Abbatiello was required to make one save for the shutout.
The Cougars play their first home game on Saturday, Sept. 6, when they host Pace University. The kick-off is set for 12:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
