CALDWELL WOMEN'S SOCCER BEGINS SEASON WITH LOSS TO AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team lost to American International College, 5-0 in the AIC Tournament Friday afternoon at AIC Park. The game marked the 2008 season opener for the Cougars, who were 5-14 a year ago.

The Yellow Jackets took the upper hand early in the game by scoring two goals just 1:09 apart. Sarah Boornazian found the net at the 15:24 mark of the first half, followed by Nikki Muhlberg's goal at 16:33. Boornazian tallied her second goal of the game in the 34th minute for a 3-0 AIC advantage. Sarah Tomlinson and Rachel Pokorny scored second-half goals for the Yellow Jackets, who were 7-13 in 2007.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) made six saves for the Cougars, while Danielle Hodecker and Kara Potts teamed up to make four saves for AIC.

Caldwell finishes play at the AIC Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 30, with a match against Le Moyne College. The non-conference game begins at 2:00 p.m. at AIC Park in Springfield, Mass.
