CALDWELL WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EARNS ROAD VICTORY AT GOLDEY-BEACOM, 71-49

WILMINGTON, Del. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team picked up a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win on the road, defeating Goldey-Beacom College, 71-49 Saturday night at the Jones Center. The victory keeps the Cougars (2-4 overall) unbeaten in conference play at 2-0, while the Lightning drops to 2-3, 0-1 CACC.

Caldwell used a 19-4 run over nine minutes midway through the first half to take a 24-9 lead with 7:52 on the clock. Senior forward Janay Perkins (Bronx, NY/Walton) tallied 11 points in the run, making all five of her shots from the field. The Cougars pushed the lead to 16 before a pair of baskets by the Lightning made the score 36-24 in favor of Caldwell at the break. Perkins scored all 13 of her points on the night in the first half.

Sophomore guard Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Acad.) helped the Cougars expand their lead to 20 with seven points in a 10-2 run over the first five minutes of the second half. Goldey-Beacom never came closer than 18 points the rest of the way, as Caldwell cruised to its second straight conference win. The Cougars forced 27 turnovers while holding the Lightning to 28.3 percent shooting from the field for the game.

Leedham, pictured, finished with a game-high 18 points with three three-pointers and three steals. Freshman guard Kaitlyn Lambert (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland) also had three steals to go with 15 points and nine rebounds, while senior forward Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and a game-high 10 boards. Janae Weldon had 15 points to pace Goldey-Beacom.

Next up for the Cougars is a non-conference home game against Adelphi University on Saturday, Dec. 13. The contest is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
