NEW CASTLE, Del. - The Caldwell College volleyball team lost to Wilmington University in three sets, 25-19, 25-15, 25-14 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Center. The result snaps the Cougars' winning streak at seven and drops their overall record to 15-9, including an 11-3 mark in league play. The Wildcats are now 18-14 overall, 11-5 CACC.
The first set was tied 13-13 until Wilmington scored eight of the next nine points en route to a 25-19 win. In the second set, again the Cougars tied the score at 13-13, but six straight points sparked a 12-2 run for the Wildcats. Wilmington controlled the final set, easily winning 25-14 to hand the Cougars their first loss since Oct. 14. Caldwell hit just .009 for the match including a -.081 hitting percentage in the third set.
Sophomore outside hitter Cory Roesing (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus), pictured, tallied a team-high eight kills to go with 11 digs, while freshman setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) dished out 24 assists. Defensively, sophomore libero Kathleen Estes (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) notched 14 digs and freshman middle blocker Titilola Alao (Ossining, NY/Ossining) had four blocks. Wilmington was led by Adrienne Melvin's nine kills and 26 assists from Kerry Collins.
The Cougars continue CACC play with a home match against Post University on Tuesday, Nov. 4. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
