WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS GOLDEY-BEACOM, 4-2

WILMINGTON, Del. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to pull away from Goldey-Beacom College for a 4-1 win in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon at Sawin Field. The victory extends the Cougars' unbeaten streak to four games and improves their record to 3-6-1 overall, including a 3-1-1 mark in the conference. The Lightning drops to 3-4, 1-3 CACC with the loss.

Senior midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester) put Caldwell on the board first when she converted a penalty kick in the 13th minute for her team-leading 10th goal of the season. Less than a minute later, the Lightning pulled even with a goal by Karin Eriksson to tie the score at 1-1. The Cougars regained the upper hand in the 29th minute, when senior midfielder Kim Fenton (Galloway Twp., NJ/Absegami) scored off an assist from freshman defender Lauren Mastellone (Howell, NJ/Monsignor Donovan).

The score remained 2-1 until senior midfielder Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX/Billy Ryan) set up sophomore defender Morgan Frankenfield (Coplay, PA/Whitehall Coplay), pictured, for her first career goal that made the score 3-1 Caldwell in the 57th minute. Then in the 70th minute, Rinks assisted on freshman forward Katie Margiotta's (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) first career goal to put the Cougars ahead 4-1. Goldey-Beacom's Marisa Valladares found the net for the Lightning in the 82nd minute, but Caldwell held on for its third victory in four games.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) recorded five saves for the Cougars to preserve the win. Kristin Degenhardt made nine saves for Goldey-Beacom, as the Lightning was out-shot 19-15 in the game.

The Cougars will play a non-conference game at home against the University of Bridgewater on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
