COUGARS BLANK NYACK 3-0 IN VOLLEYBALL

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College volleyball team cruised to a three-set sweep of Nyack College, 25-18, 25-11, 25-18 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Thursday evening in the George R. Newman Center. The win keeps the Cougars (15-8 overall) atop the CACC North Division standings with an 11-2 mark in conference play, while the Warriors drop top 6-21 overall, 5-8 CACC.

The Cougars trailed early in the first set until seven straight points gave Caldwell a 20-14 lead. Freshman right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) tallied seven kills in the set as the Cougars went on to win 25-18 for a 1-0 lead. The home team hit .440 in the first set and continued its efficiency in the second set, recording a .429 hitting percentage in a 25-11 win. Mosher had five more kills in the second set, with freshman setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) adding three kills. In the third set, Caldwell fell behind before rallying with 10 straight points on the serve of junior defensive specialist Jennifer Sullivan (Livingston, NJ/Livingston), who finished with a pair of service aces. The Cougars were able to maintain that momentum to take a 25-18 victory in the set and win the match. Sophomore middle blocker Keesha Francois (Elkins Park, PA/Cheltenham) had a team-best three kills in the final set, including one on match point.

Mosher led all players with 12 kills and a .556 hitting percentage while playing two sets. Francois tallied seven kills, three blocks and a hitting percentage of .538. Roth, who was chosen the CACC and ECAC Player of the Week for her play last week, recorded 28 assists. Sophomore libero Kathleen Estes (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) led the Cougar defense with 14 digs. The Warriors were paced by setter Samantha Friday, who had 18 assists and 10 digs.

Next up for Caldwell is a CACC match at Wilmington University on Saturday, Nov. 1. The first serve is set for 12:00 p.m. in New Castle, Del.
