RAMS TOP COUGARS IN WOMEN'S SOCCER, 2-0

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team suffered a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference defeat to Philadelphia University, 2-0 Saturday afternoon at a chilly Caldwell Field. The loss drops the Cougars to 5-8-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the conference, while the Rams (7-6-3 overall) remain unbeaten in league play with a record of 6-0-2.

Philadelphia tallied the only goal it would need in  the 13th minute, when Brianna Reinford ran onto a pass from Stephanie Filmyer to the right of the goal and scored from a sharp angle for a 1-0 lead. Caldwell created some good scoring chances in the second half. Junior midfielder Brianna Diaz (Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili), pictured, blasted a shot from point-blank range that was saved by Rams' goalkeeper Sara Hall in the 53rd minute. Then in the 71st minute, freshman forward  Katie Margiotta (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) broke in alone Hall, but her shot went over the goal. Philadelphia's Sara Redka picked up an insurance goal where her clearance from near midfield sailed past Caldwell goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) and into the goal with 1:26 to play.

Hall recorded five saves for her fourth shutout of the season, while Hoenig finished with three saves for the Cougars.

Caldwell returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 22, when they play a CACC match at Post University. The game is set to start at 3:00 p.m. in Waterbury, Conn.
