BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Freshman forward Katie Margiotta (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) scored a pair of goals to lift the Caldwell College women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Wednesday afternoon at Watessing Park. With the win, the Cougars improve to 5-7-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the conference, while the Lady Deacons fall to 2-11-1, 0-8 CACC.

Margiotta, left, tallied her first goal in the 22nd minute, when she collected a pass from senior midfielder Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX/Billy Ryan) with her back to the goal, turned and fired a shot into the left side of the goal from 15 yards out. The Cougars had many chances to score late in the first half, but each one was turned away by Bloomfield goalkeeper Danielle Blumberg.

Both teams fought for control of the game in the second half, with neither team able to gain an advantage. Near the end of regulation, Caldwell created a string of scoring opportunities, culminating in Margiotta's second goal of the game. Senior midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester) dribbled down the right flank, beat multiple defenders and sent a shot towards the far post. Margiotta got her foot on the ball near the goal line and deflected it into the back of the net with less than one minute to play.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) made three saves en route to her third shutout of the season. Blumberg finished with 14 saves for Bloomfield.

The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they host Philadelphia University in an important CACC match. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
