EAST STROUDSBURG DEFEATS COUGAR VOLLEYBALL IN THREE SETS

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to East Stroudsburg University, 3-0 Tuesday evening at the George R. Newman Center. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 8-8 overall on the season, while the Warriors improve to 13-15. East Stroudsburg won the three sets by scores of 28-26, 25-18, 25-15.

Caldwell grabbed control of the first set early, taking an 8-2 lead. Although the Warriors came back to tie the set, the Cougars still managed to take a 23-20 lead. But four straight points allowed East Stroudsburg to serve for the set at 24-23. Caldwell held off set point, and eventually had set point of their own after two consecutive kills by freshman middle blocker Titilola Alao (Ossining, NY/Ossining) made the score 26-25 in favor of Caldwell. But East Stroudsburg rallied to win the set on three consecutive points, capped by a kill from Brianne Bachman that clinched the set, 28-26.

The Warriors controlled play for most of the remaining two sets, hitting .259 compared to .031 for the Cougars. Caldwell was able to hit just ..048 for the match, with East Stroudsburg recording 12 total blocks, led by Sophie Godfrey's six blocks. Freshman right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) led all players with 10 kills, while Alao finished with nine for Caldwell. Freshman setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) tallied 27 assists. Defensively, senior Laura Ciesla (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech), pictured, had 12 digs. For the Warriors, Bachman and Linsey Sewalk each had nine kills, Amilee Schillinger dished out 25 assists and Kim Dormer had nine digs.

The Cougars return to the court on Thursday, Oct. 16, when they face Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match. The contest is set to start at 7:00 p.m. in Orangeburg, N.Y.
