BEAR, Del. - Senior midfielder Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX/Billy Ryan) provided all the scoring that was needed to give the Caldwell College women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Wilmington University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday evening at Caravel Academy. The victory gives the Cougars (4-7-1 overall) a 4-1-1 record in the CACC, while the Wildcats (3-8-1 overall) drop to 2-3-1.
The game remained scoreless until the 70th minute, when freshman midfielder Cecilia Westerberg (Uppsala, Sweden/Fyris School), pictured, sent a through-pass to Rinks, who beat Wilmington goalkeeper Kendra Ness for her fourth goal of the season. The Cougars held off the Wildcats the rest of the way to clinch the shutout and the win, which was Caldwell's fourth victory in six games.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) recorded two saves for her second shutout of the season. Ness finished with eight saves for Wilmington.
Caldwell continues its CACC schedule with a game at Bloomfield College on Wednesday, Oct. 15. The game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Watessing Park.
