CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team dropped a non-conference match to C.W. Post, 5-0 in the Cougars' first home game of the season Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field. With the win, the Pioneers remain unbeaten at 3-0-2, while the Cougars fall to 0-2 on the season.
After a scoreless first half, the Pioneers scored just 2:47 into the second half when Jackie Sousa headed home a cross from Katie Weiland for a 1-0 lead. Danielle DeLuca made it 2-0 with a goal in the 64th minute on a shot from the right side. Nicole Dabe converted on a breakaway in the 69th minute to lead 3-0. Goals by Anna Svensson and Nicole Dunn in the 80th and 87th minute, respectively completed the scoring.
Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) recorded a career-best 12 saves in goal for Caldwell. C.W. Post's Kim Yacenda and Deanna Esposito shared the shutout, with Yacenda making one save.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 11, when they host Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
