CALDWELL, N.J. - Two second-half goals allowed the Caldwell College women's soccer team to defeat Goldey-Beacom College, 2-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field. With the win, the Cougars improve to 3-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while the Lightning drops to 1-6, 0-4 CACC.
After a scoreless first half in which Caldwell out-shot Goldey-Beacom 21-1, the Cougars got on the scoreboard in the 65th minute. Lightning goalkeeper Jennifer Brown stopped shots by freshman midfielder Morgan Frankenfield (Coplay, PA/Whitehall Coplay) and junior midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester), before senior forward Brook DeLucca (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) put in the second rebound for her second goal of the season. Then in the 75th minute, senior defender Jessica Davis (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) took a shot from 30 yards out that cleared Brown and tucked under the crossbar for a 2-0 lead.
Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) made four saves to earn her first career shutout. Brown recorded four saves and starter Brittany Owens had 10 saves in goal for Goldey-Beacom, who were out-shot 39-7 for the game.
The Cougars play another CACC contest on Tuesday, Oct. 2, when they face Dominican College on the road. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Orangeburg, N.Y.
