CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team was defeated by Queens College, 4-0 in a non-conference game Sunday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The loss dropped the Cougars to 2-5 on the season, while the Knights end a five-game winless streak to improve to 2-5-1 on the year.

After a scoreless first half, Queens scored what proved to be the game-winner on a penalty kick that was awarded when the referee called a hand ball on a Caldwell defender. Jenna Peveraro beat Caldwell freshman goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) to her right to put the Knights up 1-0. In the 79th minute, Diana Redman gathered a loose ball at the top of the penalty area and scored to make it 2-0. Caitlin O'Connell scored twice in the final seven minutes of the game to close out the scoring.

The Cougars' best chances to get on the scoreboard came in the first half. Senior forward Brook DeLucca (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) beat goalkeeper Valentina Duque in the 25th minute, but her shot hit the post. In the 34th minute, junior midfielder Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX/Billy Ryan), pictured, worked a give-and-go with junior midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester) that gave Rinks an open shot from 20 yards out. But her shot clanged off the crossbar and stayed out of the net.

Hoenig finished with eight saves for the Cougars, while Duque stopped four shots for Queens.

Caldwell returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 26, when the Cougars play at Georgian Court University. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Lakewood, N.J.
