WATERBURY, Conn. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team lost a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest to Post University, 73-56 Thursday evening in the Drubner Center. The Cougars, who had won their past two games, fall to 14-10 overall and 9-8 in conference play with the loss, while the Eagles (14-10 overall) remain in second place in the CACC standings with a 12-5 conference mark.
The Eagles made six three-pointers in the first half, all by different players, to lead by as many as nine before halftime. Free throws by junior forward B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY/Our Savior), right, and junior guard Michael Wise (Whitesboro, NJ/Middletownship) in the final minute of the half helped Caldwell cut Post's lead to 32-27 at the break. Freshman forward Matt Cohen (Forked River, NJ/Manasquan), making his second straight start, made 3-of-5 from the floor en route to six points in the half.
After two more Suchy free throws made the score 36-32 Post with just under 17 minutes to play, the Eagles scored the next 12 points, punctuated by a three-pointer from Omar Robinson that put Post on top 48-32 with 12:30 remaining. The Cougars wouldn't get closer than 13 points the rest of the way, as the Eagles led by as many as 22 points to wrap up the season sweep of Caldwell. Post held a 41-31 rebounding advantage over the Cougars, who shot just 38.2 percent from the field for the game.
Suchy was the only Cougar to score in double figures, finishing with 13 points and a career-high four steals. AJ Reitter scored 19 points and Gary Shick had 13 points and a game-high eight boards to lead Post.
