FLUSHING, N.Y.- Junior forward Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) recorded 29 points, 15 rebounds and five steals to lead the Caldwell College women's basketball team to a 74-56 win at Queens College in a non-conference game Friday night at Fitzgerald Gymnasium. The win is the fifth in a row for the Cougars, who improve to 7-1 on the season. Queens is now 2-7 with the loss.
The Cougars took control of the game early and never looked back, leading by as many as 20 points in the first half. Lynch was 7-of-10 from the field in route to 17 points and nine boards in the first half to help Caldwell to a 45-27 halftime lead. The Cougars also forced 18 Queens turnovers in the game's first 20 minutes. The game turned sloppy in the second half, with each team turning the ball over 15 times. The Knights made just 16 field goals in the game while shooting just 28.1 percent from the floor compared to 39.2 percent for Caldwell.
For the game, Lynch made 13-of-24 from the field to record her fourth double-double in eight games this season. Freshman guard Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Acad.) had 11 points, and senior guard Dana Leary (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata) totaled eight points and eight rebounds. Queens' Janine Maser scored 11 points and Maryann Welsh added 10 rebounds to go with eight points for the Knights.
The Cougars head to Smithfield, R.I., for a tournament at Bryant University on Dec. 28-29. Caldwell faces St. Anselm College on Friday before facing the host Bulldogs on Saturday. Both games begin at 3:00 p.m.
