RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Senior forward Brook DeLucca (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) tallied two goals and an assist to help the Caldwell College women's soccer team earn an important Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Felician College, 3-0 Tuesday afternoon at Tryon Field. The win moves the Cougars into a tie for fifth with Nyack College in the CACC standings with a 4-3 conference record (4-8 overall). The Golden Falcons drop to 4-8-1 overall, 2-5 CACC.
After the teams battled through a scoreless first half, DeLucca put the Cougars on the board in the 54th minute, when she knocked in her own rebound for a 1-0 lead. Less than four minutes later, DeLucca sent a pass from the left side to junior midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester), who dribbled around a defender and blasted a shot into the right side of the goal from 18 yards out. Paknis returned the favor in the 88th minute with a pass that set up DeLucca's second goal of the game. DeLucca received the ball at the top of the penalty area and beat Felician goalkeeper Amanda Musarra to her right. Through 12 games this season, Paknis and DeLucca have scored 10 of the Cougars' 11 goals.
Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) made four saves to record her second shutout of the year. Mussara stopped six shots in the Felician goal as the Cougars held a 17-13 advantage in shots.
The Cougars head north for a pair of games against Northeast 10 Conference teams, beginning with Thursday's meeting with St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. On Saturday, Oct. 13, Caldwell faces UMass-Lowell in Lowell, Mass.
