CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match to Holy Family University, 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars are now 4-13 overall and 4-6 in the conference, while the Tigers (9-7) remain unbeaten in the CACC with a perfect 9-0 mark.
Kelsey Marvill put Holy Family on the board in the 36th minute with a goal off an assist from Ashley Antczak. The game remained 1-0 until Kaitlin Gavaghan received a pass from Jillian Shank, dribbled along the endline to the left of the goal and scored from six yards out in the 73rd minute. Less than four minutes later, Marvill took advantage of a mishandled ball and notched her second goal of the game for a 3-0 lead. Just 1:24 after Marvill's goal, a Holy Family defender was called for a hand ball in the Tigers' penalty area. Junior midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester), pictured, converted the ensuing penalty kick for her team-leading eighth goal of the season. The Cougars threatened in the final 12 minutes of play but were unable to complete the comeback.
Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) stopped five shots in goal for Caldwell, while Holy Family's Kelly McGrogan made three saves.
The Cougars play their final CACC game of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 23, when they face Nyack College on the road. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in Nyack, N.Y.
