MANCHESTER, N.H. - A goal by Courtney Perkins in the 88th minute allowed St. Anselm College to defeat the Caldwell College women's soccer team 1-0 in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon at Melucci Field. The result drops the Cougars to 4-9 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 7-7-1.
The two teams battled in a scoreless contest, thanks in part to Caldwell freshman goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell), who made 10 saves on the day. With the clock winding down and the game apparently headed to overtime, Perkins received a pass from Kelly Cox and beat Hoenig with a shot from 25 yards out for the game's only goal. Micaela Smith made two saves in goal for the Hawks, who held a 20-5 advantage in shots.
The Cougars play another non-conference match at UMass-Lowell on Saturday, Oct. 13, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
