DEVILS SHUT DOWN COUGARS IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL, 68-43


CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team fell to the University of the Sciences, 68-43 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday night at the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars, who trailed the entire game, have lost three straight to drop to 8-11 overall and 6-8 in the conference. The Devils extended their winning streak to eight games while improving to 13-6, 10-4 CACC.

USP started out making 11-of-15 from the field in the first 9:33 of the game, including eight straight at one point, to build a 22-9 lead. On the other end of the court, the Cougars struggled offensively, shooting 32.1 percent for the first half as the Devils extended the lead to 41-21 at the break. Neither team shot well in the second half, but USP was able to push its lead to 53-28 with 12:32 to play. Caldwell would never get closer than 18 points the rest of the way, going just 8-of-28 (28.6 percent) from the floor after halftime.

Sophomore forward Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) had 10 points, six rebounds and three steals to lead Caldwell. Shelby Rance recorded 20 points and four steals for USP, which received double-doubles from Erin Chesnavich (14 points, 11 rebounds) and Allison Weiss (13 points, 12 rebounds).

Next up for Caldwell is another CACC clash at Felician College on Thursday, Feb. 1. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J.
