POST DEFEATS COUGARS IN MEN'S BASKETBALL, 61-53

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team lost a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest to Post University, 61-53 Thursday evening at the George R. Newman Center. The loss is the Cougars' fourth in three games and drops their overall record to 8-8, and their CACC record to 4-6. The Eagles picked up their fourth straight win to improve to 8-8, 6-3 CACC.

The Cougars got a three-pointer from junior forward B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY/Our Savior) and a pair of threes from junior guard Michael Wise (Whitesboro, NJ/Middletownship) en route to 13 straight points to build an 18-9 lead midway through the first half. The Eagles managed to cut the lead to one before Caldwell took a 27-23 lead at the half. The Cougars made just 34.5 percent of their attempts from the field in the first period.

The cold shooting would continue into the second half for Caldwell. Post tied the game at 29-29 on a three-pointer by Omar Robinson at the 14:28 mark, then take the lead on a pair of free throws from Arthur Robinson after three missed shots by the Cougars. The Eagles never looked back, out-scoring the Cougars 30-11 over the first 18:22 of the second half, a stretch that saw Caldwell make just 4-of-19 from the field for a paltry 21.0 percent. Suchy and senior guard Jean Georges (Vauxhal, NJ/Spotswood) hit threes to help Caldwell cut the lead to 57-51 with 14 seconds remaining. But it wasn't enough to prevent the Eagles to end a four-game losing streak to the Cougars.

Suchy, pictured, finished with a game-high 18 points to go with eight rebounds, with Wise scoring 12 points and Georges tallying 10. AJ Reitter led Post with 15 points, while Peter Lawal recorded 11 points and 12 boards in the win.

The Cougars return to action on Saturday, Jan. 20, when they play at Wilmington College. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in New Castle, Del.
