CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The win, which came in the Cougars' home opener, gave Caldwell a 1-2 record overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Warriors dropped to 1-3, 0-1 with the loss.
After being shut out in their first two games of the 2006 season, the Cougars notched their first goal in the 39th minute, when sophomore midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester) broke in alone on Nyack goalkeeper Whitney Shutt and put the ball into the lower left corner of the goal for a 1-0 Caldwell lead. Sophomore midfielder Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX/Billy Ryan) tallied an insurance goal in the 80th minute with assists from senior defenders Patty Clark (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) and Jenna Crance (Colonia, NJ/Colonia).
The Cougars out-shot the Warriors 23-6, with Shutt making 14 saves for Nyack. Senior goalkeeper Richelle Morse (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) made two saves for her first shutout of the season. Morse holds the school record for shutouts in a season with eight during the 2004 campaign.
