CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's team dropped a 2-0 decision to Georgian Court University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Thursday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The loss is the Cougars' fourth in a row, giving them a 4-7 record overall and a 2-3 mark in the conference. The Lions improve to 7-2-1, 4-0-1 CACC.
Georgian Court scored the only goal they would need just two minutes into the game. Katherine Torode received a pass up the middle from MaryAnne Uldrich and scored from 10 yards out to put the Lions ahead 1-0. Katherine Gooch one-timed a pass from Maria Lombardi into the net in the 17th minute for the game's other goal.
The Cougars pressed to get on the scoreboard in the second half, out-shooting the Lions 8-5 in the final 45 minutes. But Georgian Court goalkeeper Lindsay Hammond made five of her six saves in the second half to preserve the shutout. Senior Richelle Morse (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) made five saves for Caldwell in the loss, while junior forward Brook Delucca (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) took eight of the Cougars' 13 shots.
The Cougars host Wilmington College in a CACC match on Saturday, Sept. 30 as a part of Caldwell College's Homecoming 2006 celebration. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 2:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
