LIGHTNING EDGES CALDWELL, 2-1

WILMINGTON, Del. - Katy Ellis' goal in the 63rd minute broke a 1-1 tie and allowed Goldey-Beacom College to defeat the Caldwell College women's soccer team in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Saturday afternoon at Sawin Field. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the CACC, while the Lightning improves to 3-2-1, 2-0 CACC.

After a scoreless first half, the Cougars got on the scoreboard first in the 47th minute. Sophomore midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester), pictured, took a pass from sophomore midfielder Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX/Billy Ryan), dribbled across the top of the penalty area and fired a shot into the left side of the goal for a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Alexis Frederick scored off a pass from April Yanacek to tie the score at 1-1. Ellis put the Lightning up for good when she collected a pass from Kasey Honeycutt and beat Caldwell goalkeeper Richelle Morse (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) to her left for the game-winner.

Morse finished with four saves, while Stephanie Steele made five saves to guide Goldey-Beacom. Both team registered 15 shots apiece and placed six shots on goal.

The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 26, when they play at Holy Family University in an important CACC match. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
