CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College volleyball team played its first match in 15 years, losing to Nyack College 3-0 Tuesday night at the George R. Newman Center. The Warriors won all three games by the scores of 30-21, 30-11 and 30-16 to improve to 1-9 overall and 1-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Caldwell, which discontinued its volleyball program in 1991 before starting anew this season, begins the new era at 0-1.
Junior Phylicia Holmes (Roselle, NJ/Roselle) recorded the first point in Game 1 for the Cougars on a kill, one of her team-high five kills on the night. Sophomore Laura Ciesla (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) recorded four assists, while senior Amy Ransom (Chattanooga, TN/Notre Dame) had a team-best 14 digs. Nyack was led by Lacey McCabe's 10 kills and Tara Leegwater's 19 assists. Colleen Weidman finished with eight digs defensively.
The Cougars continue their inaugural season on Thursday, Sept. 14, when they play at Felician College in a CACC match. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J.
