BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Sophomore forward Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) tallied 16 points, 17 rebounds and three steals to lead the Caldwell College women's basketball team to a 69-64 win at Bloomsburg University in its first game of the year Friday evening. The result marked the first victory for Caldwell head coach Linda Cimino, who is in her first season as coach of the Cougars. The Huskies are now 1-1 with the loss.

Bloomsburg jumped out to a 14-6 lead before the Cougars used a 14-0 run to take control of the game midway through the first half. Lynch and junior forward Melissa Freeman (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) each scored four points in the run. Caldwell eventually built the lead to seven before halftime, as consecutive lay-ups from junior guard Dana Leary (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata) and sophomore forward Janay Prim (Ansonia, CT/Kolbe Cathedral) gave the Cougars a 28-21 advantage at the half.

The Cougars shot the ball well in the second half, making 56.0 percent of their field goal attempts to build a 56-42 lead with six minutes to play. The Huskies made it interesting at the end, scoring six points in 18 seconds to make the score 67-64 with seven seconds left. But a pair of free throws by senior guard Amy Ransom (Chattanooga, TN/Notre Dame) locked up the win for Caldwell.

Lynch's first career double-double came in her debut for Caldwell after transferring from Bryant University last spring. Freeman finished with 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks, while Prim (pictured) scored 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. Bloomsburg's Bianca Lee led all scorers with 27 points to go with 11 boards in a losing effort.

The Cougars wrap up play at the Bloomsburg tournament with a game against Lock Haven University on Saturday, Nov. 18, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
