DEACONS DEFEAT COUGARS IN VOLLEYBALL

CALDWELL, N.J. - Bloomfield College earned a come-from-behind win in game one, then rolled to a 3-0 victory over the Caldwell College women's volleyball team in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Thursday night at the George R. Newman Center. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 0-14 overall and 0-13 in the conference, while the Deacons improve to 11-5, 10-2 CACC.

The Cougars led for most of game one and held a 23-19 advantage. But Bloomfield stormed back to record nine straight points en route to a 30-24 win. The Deacons won the next two games 30-14 and 30-14 to take the match. Senior Amy Ransom (Chattanooga, TN/Notre Dame) had a team-high eight kills for Caldwell, with sophomore Laura Ciesla recording 12 assists. Sophomore Laura DeVico (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) paced the Cougar defense with 13 digs, with freshman Elizabeth Newcomb (Redondo Beach, CA/Redondo Union) tallying 11 digs. For Bloomfield, Ursula Pereira and Milmara Zanette had 15 and 14 kills, respectively, and Sonia Perez notched 45 assists.

The Cougars will play the final home match of their inaugural season on Saturday, Oct. 14 against Philadelphia University. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. in the Newman Center.
