BLOOMFIELD, N.J.- Sophomore midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester) tallied two goals and an assist to spark the Caldwell College women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Bloomfield College Thursday afternoon at Watessing Park. With the win, the Cougars improve to 7-9 on the season and 4-5 in the conference, while the Deacons drop to 1-13, 0-9 CACC.
Bloomfield struck first in the 11th minute, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Saint Anne Pierre. The score remained 1-0 into the second half until Paknis scored off a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX/Billy Ryan), pictured, in the 56th minute. Less than two minutes later, Paknis tallied an unassisted goal, her seventh of the year, that put Caldwell ahead 2-1. In the 70th minute, Paknis and junior forward Brook Delucca (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) set up Rinks' third goal of the season for a 3-1 advantage. Delucca closed out the scoring in the 72nd minute off an assist from senior defender Patty Clark (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick). It was Delucca's third goal of the season.
Senior goalkeeper Richelle Morse (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) made two saves for Caldwell in the win, while Danielle Blumberg recorded 12 saves for the Deacons. The Cougars held a 26-7 advantage in shots.
Caldwell returns to action on Monday, Oct. 16 with a non-conference game at Molloy College. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
