CALDWELL, N.J. - Sophomore forward Brook Delucca (Nutley, NJ/Nutley), left, and senior forward Renata Fonseca (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Essex CC) each tallied hat tricks as the Caldwell College women's soccer team defeated Bloomfield College 7-3 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Wednesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars picked up their first win of the season and improved to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the CACC, while the Deacons dropped to 0-1.
Bloomfield opened the scoring in the 10th minute, when Mirlande Teleus' corner kick from the left went in the goal off of the hand of freshman goalkeeper Annie LaForge (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley). The Cougars tied it up six minutes later on Delucca's first goal. Delucca gathered a loose ball at midfield and charged down the left side, beating goalkeeper Daniella Sofianakos with a shot from 10 yards out. Teleus put the Deacons back on top with a header off Heather Letts' corner kick in the 24th minute.
Fonseca, left, tied the game at 2-2 in the 31st minute when she collected a header from sophomore midfielder Carla Bleiler (Galloway Twp, NJ/Absegami) and scored from 15 yards out. Just three minutes later, junior midfielder Victoria Aguilera (Merida, Venezuela/Saucon Valley) stole the ball at midfield, dribbled down the right side and scored on a shot from 20 yards out to give Caldwell its first lead of the season. Fonseca scored her second goal when the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick after freshman midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester) was taken down in the penalty area with less than five minutes left in the half. Delucca notched her second goal just before halftime to give the Cougars a 5-2 lead.
Delucca then completed her hat trick in the 52nd minute with an unassisted goal from 15 yards out, followed just 36 seconds later by Fonseca's third goal. Fonseca headed home a cross from Delucca for a 7-2 advantage. Bloomfield's Molly Refner completed the scoring with her tally in the 80th minute.
LaForge finished with six saves in just over 60 minutes of work. Sophomore Jen Borden (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) played the final 30 minutes and made three saves. Sofianakos and Teleus each played a half in goal for Bloomfield and stopped four shots apiece.
The victory was the Cougars' sixth straight at home going back to last season, when they went 7-0-1 at home.
