OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Sophomore forward Brook Delucca (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) tallied a goal and an assist as the Caldwell College women's soccer team defeated New York Institute of Technology, 2-1 in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon. The victory evens the Cougars' record at 3-3 on the season, while N.Y.I.T. falls to 3-3-1.
The game remained scoreless until the 70th minute, when Delucca scored an unassisted goal, her team-best fifth of the season, to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, Delucca crossed the ball in front of the goal to junior midfielder Victoria Aguilera (Merida, Venezuela/Saucon Valley), who notched her second goal of the year. Aguilera's goal turned out to be important, as N.Y.I.T.'s Stephanie Santoli pulled her team to within a goal with her tally in the 85th minute. But that's as close as N.Y.I.T. would get, as Caldwell picked up its second straight win and third in its past four games.
Freshman goalkeeper Annie LaForge (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) recorded eight saves to contribute to the victory, while Jenna Ament made six saves in a losing effort.
The Cougars return to action on Monday, Sept. 19, when they host Molloy College in the first of three straight home games. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
