WOMEN'S HOOPS STUMBLES AGAINST DOMINICAN, 63-54

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team lost to Dominican College, 63-54 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Wednesday night at the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars are now 7-14 on the season and 6-10 in conference play, while the Chargers improve to 11-10 and 9-7 in the CACC.

In a low-scoring and tightly-played first half, Dominican built a 20-14 lead with 5:25 to go until the Cougars went on a 9-0 run capped by a three-pointer from sophomore guard Shannon Coyle (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) made it 23-20 Caldwell. The Chargers then scored five unanswered points, including a three by Jill Slesinski to take a 25-23 advantage into the break.

Dominican never trailed the rest of the game and took control with a 9-2 run on three three-pointers midway through the half that gave the Chargers a 45-33 lead.  Caldwell never came closer than six points the rest of the way as Dominican shot 53.8 percent from the floor in the second half.

For the game, Caldwell made just 27.4 percent of their attempts from the field and 56.3 percent from the free throw line. The Cougars out-rebounded their opponents for the third straight game, grabbing 26 boards on the offensive glass.

Sophomore guard Jenn Murray (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) led Caldwell with 14 points and seven assists, while freshman forward Melissa Freeman (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill), pictured, had 12 points. Jill Younghans scored 15 points for Dominican, while Ashley Rossi registered a double-double with 10 points and 14 boards in the win.

The Cougars return to action on Saturday, Feb. 12, when they play at Georgian Court University. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
