COUGARS GROUND GOLDEN FALCONS, 92-83 IN WOMEN'S HOOPS

CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College's women's basketball team led from start to finish to defeat Felician College, 92-83 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday evening at the George R. Newman Center. The win allowed the Cougars (7-12) to tie the Golden Falcons (6-13) for sixth place in the CACC with a 6-7 record in conference play.

The Cougars took control early and led 19-9 at the 13:30 mark of the first half. A 17-9 Felician run cut the lead to 28-26 with 5:53 on the clock before Caldwell closed out the half with a 17-4 spree capped by a three-pointer by sophomore guard Jenn Murray (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) that gave the Cougars a 45-30 lead at the break.

Trailing by as many as 17 in the second half, the Golden Falcons used a 20-6 run to cut the deficit to 59-56 at the 11:01 mark. But that's as close as the Golden Falcons would get, as the Cougars built the lead up to as many as 12 points in closing out the victory. Both teams shot well from the field in the second half, with Felician hitting 57.6 percent and Caldwell making 50.0 percent of their attempts. Sophomore guard Amy Ransom (Chattanooga, TN/Notre Dame) scored 12 of her 14 points after halftime. Ransom also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds as the Cougars out-rebounded Felician 42-29.

Including Ransom, six Cougars scored in double-figures, led by Murray, who led Caldwell in scoring for the fourth straight game with 18 points. Sophomore guard Shannon Coyle (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney), pictured, scored 17 points, freshmen Dana Leary (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata) and Corrie McIntyre (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park Regional) each tallied 11 points, and freshman forward Melissa Freeman (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) had 10 points. Alesha Clayton scored 21 points and Saule Vadopalaite had 20 points for Felician in the loss.

The Cougars return to action on Monday, Feb. 7, when they host Wilmington College at the Newman Center. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
