GOLDEY-BEACOM UPENDS COUGARS IN CACC TOURNEY

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team, seeded second, lost to third-seeded Goldey-Beacom College in the semifinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon at Tryon Field. The defeat eliminates the Cougars (8-8-3) from the tournament, while the Lightning advances to Saturday's final against top-seed Holy Family.

After a scoreless first half, Goldey-Beacom's April Yanacek scored off a pass from Lori Knabb in the 55th minute to give the Lightning the only goal they would need. Goldey-Beacom out-shot the Cougars 17-10 in the game, including 9-3 in the second half. Sophomore goalkeeper Jen Borden (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) made seven saves for Caldwell, while Stephanie Steele recorded six saves in goal for the Lightning.

The loss marks the second straight year the Cougars have been eliminated in the semifinals of the CACC Tournament. Last year Caldwell played to a scoreless tie against Wilmington before losing in the ensuing shootout.
