CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team came back from a two-goal deficit against nationally-ranked Assumption College to tie the game, only to lose in double overtime in a non-conference game Sunday afternoon at a chilly Caldwell Field. The Cougars are now 7-7-3 overall, while the Greyhounds, ranked eighth in the latest NSCAA national poll, improve to 12-2-3 on the season.

Assumption took control of the game early with two goals just three minutes apart. Andrea Marcoccio scored an unassisted goal in the 19th minute, followed by Emily Pattison's first goal of the season in the 22nd minute. The Cougars pulled to within a goal when sophomore forward Brook Delucca (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) finished a crossing pass from senior forward Renata Fonseca (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Essex CC) in the 37th minute. Fonseca, pictured, then completed the comeback in the second half when she knocked home a corner kick from freshman midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester) in the 59th minute.

The game remained tied through regulation and the first 10-minute overtime period. Then two minutes into the second extra session, Marcoccio received a long pass from Ashley McMahon, dribbled past the Cougar defenders and put a shot under sophomore goalkeeper Jen Borden (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) for the game-winner, her 10th tally of the season.

Borden played a strong game in goal for the Cougars, making nine saves. Lauren Matysiak recorded three saves for Assumption.

The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 26, when they host C.W. Post in a non-conference game. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
