ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team played in its second straight double-overtime game, this time coming away with a 1-1 tie at Dominican College in an important Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars, who lost to Philadelphia University on Monday in the second extra period, are now 7-6-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the CACC. The tie left the Chargers 4-4-2 in the conference and 5-9-2 overall.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute on a goal by sophomore defender Tory Marcus (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City), pictured, her first collegiate goal on her first shot of the season. Junior midfielder Victoria Aguilera (Merida, Venezuela/Saucon Valley) and freshman midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester) were credited with assists on Marcus' goal. Just four seconds before halftime, the Chargers pulled even on a goal by Marie LaMaida. Neither team scored through the second half and two 10-minute overtime periods. The game marked the seventh overtime game for the Cougars this season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jen Borden (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) made six saves for Caldwell, while Allison Comentino recorded three saves for Dominican.
The tie with Dominican means the Cougars can clinch the No. 2 seed and a bye in next month's CACC Tournament with a win over Felician College on Friday, Oct. 28. The game with Felician, which was originally scheduled for Oct. 15, will be played at Caldwell Field at 3:00 p.m.
Next up for the Cougars is a non-conference home game with Assumption College on Sunday, Oct. 23. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
