LADY KNIGHTS EDGE COUGARS IN WOMEN'S SOCCER

CALDWELL, N.J. - A goal in the 85th minute allowed Queens College to defeat the Caldwell College women's soccer team 2-1 in a non-conference game Monday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The loss dropped the Cougars to 7-5-2 on the season, while the Lady Knights improved to 8-2.

Angelica Martinez put Queens on top just 3:17 into the first half, when she collected a pass from Cheryl Meaney and scored from 15 yards out. The Cougars finally were able to tie the game in the 78th minute. Sophomore midfielder Carla Bleiler (Galloway Twp., NJ/Absegami), pictured, deflected a crossing pass from sophomore forward Brook Delucca (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) into the goal for her fifth tally of the season. But the Lady Knights would regain the lead for good when Joanne Hammel chipped the ball into the upper left corner of the goal with just over five minutes remaining in the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jen Borden (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) recorded nine saves in the Cougars' goal for the second straight game. Lauren Usewicz made three saves for Queens to preserve the victory.

The Caldwell College women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 12, when they play at Philadelphia University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
