CALDWELL, N.J. - Freshman midfielder Carla Bleiler (Egg Harbor, N.J./Absegami) scored in the game's fifth minute, and fellow frosh Jessica Davis (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) tallied a goal and an assist as Caldwell College defeated New York Institute of Technology 2-0 in a nonconference women's soccer match Monday at Caldwell Field. With the win, the Cougars improved to 2-3 on the season, while N.Y.I.T. dropped to 2-4.
Bleiler notched her third goal of the season when her header off of Davis' corner kick from the left side found the left corner of the goal. Davis scored her first collegiate goal in the 40th minute, after stealing the ball and dribbling into the N.Y.I.T. penalty area, where she beat goalkeeper Tara Parrington with a shot from about 15 yards out.
After outshooting the Lady Bears 7-4 in the first half, the Cougars managed just one shot to N.Y.I.T.'s 11 in the second half as the Lady Bears pressed for the equalizer. Junior goalkeeper Richelle Morse (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) kept N.Y.I.T. off the scoreboard, making eight saves for her second consecutive shutout. Parrington made three saves for the Lady Bears.
The Caldwell College women's soccer team is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 25, when the Cougars play at Wilmington College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
