WOMEN'S SOCCER WINS HOME OPENER OVER NYACK 1-0

CALDWELL, N.J. - Freshman Brook Delucca (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) scored the only goal of the game in the 10th minute to give Caldwell College's women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Nyack in the Cougars' home opener at Caldwell Field Wednesday afternoon. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win improved Caldwell's record to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while Nyack dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the CACC.

Delucca's first collegiate goal was created when freshman Carla Bleiler (Egg Harbor, NJ/Absegami) collected a loose ball in the midfield and sent the ball to the left flank for sophomore Victoria Aguilera (Merida, Venezuela/Saucon Valley). Aguilera's centering pass found Delucca free inside the penalty area, and Delucca beat Nyack goalkeeper Renee Phillips from 15 yards out for the eventual game-winner.

Nyack's best scoring chance came early in the second half, when Jess Betts took a pass from Jenna Cutts and took a shot from inside the penalty area. But junior goalkeeper Richelle Morse (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) made the save to keep Nyack off the scoreboard.

Morse made three saves for her first shutout of the year, while Phillips made six saves before leaving the game just before halftime with an injury. Beth Jackson played in goal the rest of the way for the Lady Warriors, making three saves.

Caldwell outshot Nyack 17-4 on the afternoon, with Bleiler taking six shots and Delucca taking five.

The Cougars return to action on Saturday when they play at Bloomfield College at 11:00 a.m. in a CACC match.
