BLOOMFIELD HANDLES COUGARS, 82-59

CALDWELL, N.J. - Keir Dargon scored a game-high 24 points and Domenica Raymond tallied 15 of her 20 points in the second half as Bloomfield College defeated Caldwell College 82-59 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon at the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars fell to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the CACC, while the Deacons improved to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

The Deacons never trailed in the game and led by as many as 10 in the first half, including a 23-12 advantage with 10:55 left in the half. Five free throws and a three-pointer by freshman guard Melissa Shubiak (Manville, NJ/Immaculata) brought the Cougars to within 25-21 at the 5:39 mark. After the teams traded baskets, Bloomfield closed out the half with a 12-8 run, including eight points from Dargon, for a 39-31 lead at the half.

After the Cougars opened the second half with a lay-up by sophomore guard Amy Ransom (Chattanooga, TN/USC-Aiken), it was all Bloomfield from then on. A pair of three-pointers from Raymond helped the Deacons take a 50-35 lead with 15:44 left. Caldwell countered with a three-pointer by sophomore guard Shannon Coyle (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) to cut the lead to 12, but a 16-3 Bloomfield run made certain that the Cougars would get no closer.

Coyle led the Cougars in scoring for the third time in five games this season with 11 points to go with four assists. Ransom finished with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds, while freshman forward Dana Leary (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata) recorded nine points and six boards as the Cougars held a 49-44 advantage on the glass.

The Cougars return to action on Thursday, Dec. 9, when they host Post University at 6:00 p.m. at the Newman Center.
