ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - Junior Chris Parshelunis (Brick, NJ/St. Rose) and sophomore Bard Skjelstad (Bodo, Norway) (pictured) each scored a pair of goals as the Caldwell College men's soccer team defeated the University of Bridgeport 5-2 in an ECAC semifinal match Saturday morning at Dominican College. With the win, the Cougars (13-7-2) advance to the ECAC Tournament finals against Dominican on Sunday at the University of Bridgeport on Sunday.
Skjelstad opened the scoring in the 21st minute off an assist from freshman Christian Motte (Lima, Peru). But Bridgeport got goals from David Tuesta in the 42nd minute and Cheikh Diop in the 55th minute to go up 2-1 midway through the second half. Freshman Nicholas Harriott (St. Catherine's, Jamaica/Champion) then tied the game for Caldwell in the 75th minute. Less than two minutes after Harriott's goal, Parshelunis put the Cougars ahead to stay with his second goal of the season, with assists from Skjelstad and Motte. Skjelstad notched his second goal of the game and 11th of the season in the 82nd minute, then Parshelunis ended the scoring in the 86th minute with his second tally, as Motte earned his third assist of the game as well.
Junior goalkeeper Mike Turdo (West Paterson, NJ/Passaic Valley) made five saves for Caldwell, while Javier Decima recorded four saves for Bridgeport.
