CALDWELL, N.J. - Junior goalkeeper Richelle Morse (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) made nine saves for her school-record seventh shutout of the season as Caldwell College blanked Georgian Court, 2-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer match Monday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The win clinched third place in the CACC standings for the Cougars (10-6-1 overall, 8-2 CACC), while the Lions fell to 4-7-4 overall, 2-5-2 CACC.
After a scoreless first half in a tightly contested match, sophomore Victoria Aguilera (Merida, Venezuela/Saucon Valley) tallied her sixth goal of the season when she knocked in a rebound from a shot by freshman Brook Delucca (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) in the 60th minute. Cougars' leading scorer Carla Bleiler (Egg Harbor, NJ/Absegami) added an insurance goal in the 79th minute, when freshman Jessica Davis (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) chipped the ball to the far post to Bleiler, who headed it into the goal for her eighth of the season. Bleiler extended her points streak to six games, with four goals and four assists during that stretch.
Morse, who recorded her second straight shutout, hasn't allowed a non-penalty kick goal in five games, with the Cougars winning all five contests. Georgian Court goalkeeper Jamie Kaiser made three saves for the game.
The game also marked the final regular-season contest at Caldwell Field for seniors Margee Lusaitis (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) and Jen DeSalvo (Bayonne, NJ/Holy Family Academy). With its third-place finish in the conference, Caldwell will host a first round match of the CACC Tournament on Monday, Nov. 1. The Cougars close out the regular season on Thursday with a non-conference game at Molloy College at 3:30 p.m.
