BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - Junior midfielder Renata Fonseca (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Essex CC), pictured, scored the game's only goal in the 84th minute as the Caldwell College women's soccer team defeated Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Saturday morning at Watsessing Park. The win moves the Cougars (9-6-1, 7-2 CACC) into third place in the CACC standings.
Although Caldwell dominated play throughout the contest, the game remained scoreless until the 84th minute, when a free kick by freshman Carla Bleiler (Egg Harbor, NJ/Absegami) was headed into the goal by Fonseca for her fourth goal of the season and her team-leading third game-winner. For Bleiler, last week's CACC Player of the Week, this marks the fifth straight game in which she has recorded a point. She has three goals and four assists during that stretch.
Junior goalkeeper Richelle Morse (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) made one save to set the school record for shutouts in a season with six. Morse, who had four shutouts a year ago, hasn't allowed a non-penalty kick goal in four games.
Caldwell closes out its CACC schedule on Monday, Oct. 25, when the Cougars host Georgian Court at 3:30 p.m. at Caldwell Field. The game is the final home match for seniors Margee Lusaitis (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) and Jen DeSalvo (Bayonne, NJ/Holy Family Academy).
