Caldwell Women's Basketball Loses to Host Lions at Dowling Tournament, 66-56

OAKDALE, N.Y. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference game to Dowling College, 66-56 on the final day of the Lions' tournament Sunday afternoon at the Dowling Gymnasium. The loss gives the Cougars a 1-4 record overall, while Dowling remains unbeated at 4-0.

Caldwell struggled offensively in the first half, making 8-of-26 (30.8 percent) from the floor as the Lions built a commanding 35-19 halftime lead. A three-pointer by freshman guard Jessica Coscia (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) at the 12:53 mark of the second half allowed the Cougars to cut the lead to 11 points, 44-33. Caldwell came within 11 points four more times, the last time on a basket by freshman forward Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) with 4:38 remaining. But the Lions clinched their fourth straight win with an 8-0 run to lead 64-45 with 2:34 on the clock.

Caldwell's shooting improved to 46.2 percent in the second half, but Dowling made 50.0 percent from the floor after halftime. Sophomore forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn) led the Cougars with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while sophomore guard Shantel McNeil (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) had seven points and a team-best six rebounds. Dowling's Connie Simmons led all players with 26 points, 10 boards and seven assists.

Caldwell begins conference play on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Dominican College. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game begins at 6:00 p.m. in Orangeburg, N.Y.
