CALDWELL, N.J. - Senior forward Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) recorded season highs of 27 points and 20 rebounds as the Caldwell College women's basketball team fell to Dowling College, 75-64 in a non-conference game Sunday evening at the George R. Newman Center. The loss is the Cougars' fourth in a row and gives them a 4-8 record on the season, while the Golden Lions improve to 9-3.

Caldwell held Dowling scoreless for nearly eight minutes to start the first half and built an 8-0 lead. But the Golden Lions reeled off a 12-2 run to take their first lead of the game, 12-10 at the 8:24 mark of the first half. After baskets by Lynch and senior forward Janay Perkins (Bronx, NY/Walton) put Caldwell ahead 14-12, Dowling scored the next 12 points, capped by a three-pointer by Michele Yawn that made the score 24-14 with 4:33 left in the half. The teams exchanged three-pointers, then Caldwell closed out the half with a 9-3 spree that cut Dowling's lead to four at the break, 30-26.

Six points by Molly Tubridy and four from Kelly Puwalski ignited a 10-2 run to start the second half for the Golden Lions, who built their lead up to 40-28 with 17:20 to play. Caldwell never got closer than nine points, as the Dowling lead grew to as many as 18 points in the second half. The Cougars, who have struggled from the field during their losing streak, made just 35.4 percent from the floor for the game, while Dowling put the game away by shooting 51.4 percent in the second half.

Lynch, pictured, was a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line en route to 27 points. Eleven of her 20 rebounds were on the offensive glass as the Cougars held a 50-36 advantage on the boards. Sophomore guard Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Acad.) was the only other scorer in double figures for Caldwell, with 10 points. Perkins finished with eight points, eight rebounds and a career-high five steals, while sophomore guard Abena George (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) had four steals. Shanasia Franklin led the Golden Lions with 20 points and seven rebounds, and Puwalski had 16 points and four steals.

The Cougars resume Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a home game against Bloomfield College on Thursday, Jan. 8. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in the Newman Center.
