Danielle Ciresi Murphy played alongside Gina Borea for one season, then set to work rewriting the record books. During her senior season, Murphy broke Borea’s school record and surpassed 2,000 career points in the same game with her former teammate in the Student Center seats. She went on to score 2,491 points, which at the time ranked her fourth all-time among college women’s basketball players in New Jersey.

Murphy, who considered herself a field hockey player while at Pequannock High School, led all New Jersey college players in scoring her junior and senior seasons. As a senior she was named the CACC co-Most Valuable Player and received All-American honorable mention. Her scoring average of 31.7 points per game as a senior led the nation and was fifth all-time in NAIA scoring history.

"The College gave me a great opportunity to excel. Everyone was behind me 100 percent," she said. "We had the support of everyone, including the administration, faculty and students, at the games. It was a great experience because the community was so strong."

Murphy lives in Pompton Plains, N.J., with her husband Jim and their children J.T., Samantha, Meghan and Daniel.
