CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University Sprint Football Head Coach
Daryle Weiss leads the Cougars in its inaugural season with a seven game schedule this fall. Caldwell plays their first-ever game at home as they take on the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, September 16 at 1 pm.
The 2017 schedule features three home games with the Cougars hosting Mansfield University on Saturday, October 14 at 1 pm and Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, October 28 at 12 pm. All home games will be played at James Caldwell High School in West Caldwell.
Caldwell's road contests include their first night game as they travel to Cornell University on Friday, September 22 at 7 pm. The Cougars also face Post University on Saturday, September 30 at 1 pm and travel to Chestnut Hill College on Friday, October 20 at 7 pm. Caldwell wraps up their first season on the road on Friday, November 3 at 7 pm against the United States Naval Academy.
The Cougars are part of the nine member Collegiate Sprint Football League that includes Army West Point, Chestnut Hill, Cornell, Franklin Pierce, Mansfield, Navy, Post, and Penn.
The CSFL split into two divisions for the 2017 season. The Cougars will compete in the South Division with Chestnut Hill, Mansfield, Penn and Navy. The North Division includes Army, Cornell, Franklin Pierce and Post. The winner of each division will compete in the CSFL Championship Game on the second weekend of November.
Sprint football is a full-contact, intercollegiate, varsity sport and has the same rules as regular college football, except that all players must weigh 178 pounds or less. The league has existed since before World War II.
